Join the club, my friends! It would appear to be a very confusing time as far as UK flights are concerned.

On the one hand you have some truly amazing bargains out there, on the other, you have an industry that is cutting back on services and having to raise prices as a result of the increased overheads the airlines are facing. And let’s face it, the government never do anything to help them out, raising their charges and taxes every time they need a convenient scapegoat for their lack of managing the global climatic crisis themselves.

So, it would appear some crucial advice is now in order, so here we go:

First and foremost, if you’re booking a flight with an airline directly it seems to be most prudent to make your booking in what we are going to refer to as ‘middle ground’. This means that you should not dive straight in and make a booking as soon as the flights come onto the system. The airlines count on many passengers doing this and keep the price high at this stage.

Instead, sit back for a while and bide your time. Let the airline feel slightly panicked into thinking that a flight is going to end up being much quieter. Let them physically lower the prices and then you snap up the opportunity to go ahead and save yourself quite a few pounds.

Do not leave your flight to the last minute either, as most airlines will again tend to exploit panicked last minute passengers.
